the memory of leaves
The Memory of Leaves is a series of paintings, prints, and drawings based on the transformative nature and the restorative capabilities of plants. I create stencils that are based on forms and shapes found when observing leaves and their shadows. Working flat on the ground, I place stencils on the surface and use thin layers of transparent paint or ink to create landscapes of color and texture. Leaves have become a symbol of healing for me. As seasons change, when leaves become vulnerable and begin to wilt, there are always opportunities to look for moments of wonder. I use this body of work as a reminder to search for the beauty and resilience that exists, even amidst suffering and pain.
